Pharmacy Department

The pharmacy department plays a crucial role in providing patients, including students, staff, and non-staff, with essential medications and pharmaceutical care.

The team of licensed pharmacists ensures the availability of prescription and over-the-counter medications, ensures the safe dispensing of medications, offers drug counselling, and provides advice on medication management and potential side effects.

In addition to dispensing medications, the pharmacy staff is available to answer questions about drug interactions, dosage, and general health concerns.

Pharmacy Department Services

1. Dispensing medications

We are responsible for dispensing medications prescribed by medical officers.

After reviewing the prescriptions, we provide patients with the appropriate medications, ensuring that the correct dosage and instructions for use are communicated.

Our goal is to ensure patients receive the treatments they need safely and effectively.

2. Patient Counselling

In addition to dispensing medications, we counsel patients on their proper use.

We explain how to take their medications, possible side effects, drug interactions, and the importance of adherence to the prescribed regimen.

By offering this guidance, we help patients understand their treatment plans and support them in managing their health.

3. Stock Management & Inventory Control

We are responsible for managing the pharmacy’s medication stock.

This includes ordering new supplies, maintaining an accurate inventory, and ensuring that medications are stored correctly to preserve their efficacy.

We also monitor expiration dates to prevent the use of outdated medications, ensuring that patients always receive fresh and potent treatments.

4. Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring

We monitor patients for any adverse reactions to medications they are taking.

If a patient experiences side effects, we assess the situation, offer guidance on managing the reaction, and, if necessary, consult with medical officers to adjust the treatment plan.

Our vigilance helps ensure patient safety during their course of treatment.

5. Pharmacovigilance and Reporting

We are involved in pharmacovigilance, where we actively track and report any adverse drug reactions or medication errors to relevant authorities.

By reporting these incidents, we contribute to the broader goal of improving drug safety and effectiveness at both the institutional and national levels.
